So we all most likely know that Solar panels use the sun to generate electricity, but few people actually know the science behind the solar power process.
But we are here to lift the veil on the mystery of solar power. It can seem complicated at first glance but it all comes down to something called the photovoltaic effect. That is the ability of matter to emit electrons when bathed in light
Steps taken to generate electricity
Here we will cover the steps that are taken by the solar panel and other appliences to generate usable electricty
Step 1: Solar radiation waves hit the panels and create an electric field. (This is the photovoltaic effect that we were talking about)
Step 2: The generated electricity flows to the edge of each of the panels, into a conductive wire.
Step 3: The wire then transports the electricity to the inverter, where it is transformed from DC (direct current) electricity to AC (alternating current), which is the type of electricity that is used to power buildings and their appliances.
Step 4: Another wire transports the AC electricity from the inverter to the breaker box. This then distributes the electricity throughout the building as and when needed.
Step 5: Any electricity that is not needed upon generation, flows through the utility meter and into the utility electrical grid. As the electricity flows through the meter, it causes the meter to run backwards. Your property is then credited for the excess generation, saving you money on electricity you didn't even use.
